Copper Day , to be held on the 10th October 2008,  will allow industry insiders to explain the production and exploration scene to the European financial community, providing potential investors with a political, geological and corporate context for investment.

Mining Journal covered the previous copper day, held on the 5th October 2007 in full: Special report: copper day - High expectations

Copper ReportCopper ended 2007 with an overall gain on the year, closing at US$6,670/t, versus US$6,330/t at the end of 2006. The 5% year-on-year improvement compares badly with the 44% achieved in 2006 but, within 2007, the copper price had reached US$8,200/t (on tight supplies in May) before falling back on concern that China's economic growth was not certain. The metal also suffered from the credit concerns emanating from the US.

Mined copper production is set to increase 30% to 21.9 Mt by 2011, according to the International Copper Study Group. The ICSG anticipates that China, Africa and South America will be the biggest contributors to the increased copper production. Refined-copper capacity is also set to increase 20% to over 25 Mt by 2011. China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will account for half of this raised capacity.
